Christians@Wits - What it's about...

Wits University is characterised by: being a breeding ground for tomorrow's leaders, by having many people who are passionate about serving Christ, but, by also being filled with many people who do not know Christ. Finally, it is a place where there are over 20 Christian societies and there was limited Christian unity. But, now the unity among the societies is growing.

Over the next few months everyone involved will be building up to a major week of events occurring from the 1st to the 8th of August. However, this will not be an isolated week of events. There will be discipleship training before and after the mission. New converts will be guided into societies where they can be cared for. The infrastructure that is created during this year will be utilised for years to come to create future missions, such that Wits can be influenced for a long time.

During the week of events there will be guest speakers, celebrities giving testimonies, worship sessions, talks on important topics and much more. It will reach out to students and staff in a variety of ways to draw people to hear the word of God, no matter what end of the spectrum people come from.

Wanna change Wits?!

The mission will need many people and societies to be involved with it, to really make a big impact. If you or your society is not involved yet, but you would like to join in, then please contact us at witschristians@gmail.com. The working committees listed below are always in need of a few extra hands so let us know if you want to be a part of any of them.
  • Prayer
  • Publicity
  • Practical arrangements
  • Finance and fund-raising
  • Discipling, evangelism and training
  • Music
  • Social development

African Enterprise and Wits

African Enterprise (AE) helped establish the Christians@Wits Network in 2007 with a very successful unifying mission. In August 2007 around 100 events were held in the space of one week on the various campuses, with events such as musical performances, prayer rallies, celebrity testimonies and much more.

AE is now continuing to support all that is happening at Wits and will try ensure that an effective Christian network is active on the campus for many years to come. There will be major missions every 3 years with smaller missions occurring in between.

Prayer@Wits

Prayer = us talking with God.
God can do more in a second than we can do in our entire lifetime... so, let us bring all our needs for Wits and for the mission before God.

Write in the comments box any prayer requests that you might have for Wits, for your own needs, or if you are in the organising committees and need help with anything for the mission. All these requests will go through to the numerous prayer committees that are in operation across Wits.

PRAYER MEETINGS
In preparation for everything there will be large amounts of prayer. Please come and join in the prayer meetings happening on Wednesdays from 13h15-14h15 in Richard Ward Room 225.

We want to hear from you...

What do you think should the Christian societies at Wits should be doing more of on campus? What is good, and what is not with regards to what the socities are already doing? Are there ways things could be improved? We want to hear your open and honest comments - and you can put these thoughts in writing in the comments box too.
